Intrapreneurs: Intrapreneurial Mentality vs. KPI Mentality

Intrapreneurial mentality is focused on maximizing value for business in an entrepreneurial way

KPI mentality forces employees to focus on parts too close and thus miss the big picture. This approach works well in efficiency-focused organizations.

Intrapreneurship is an entrepreneurial way of thinking about emerging opportunities, radical improvement, and radical innovation inside organizations that focuses on specific challenges the company already faces.

In effectiveness- and innovation-focused organizations, entrepreneurial thinkers start with considering the big picture and thinking about how their actions can best contribute to the overall performance success of the firm.

Big-picture thinking is crucial for strategic alignment and strategic achievement in the workplace because knowing what to focus on can help us manage resources and act effectively.

Intrapreneurial Attitudes

Core intrapreneurial attitudes include creative dissatisfaction, intrapreneurial serendipity, and entrepreneurial proactiveness.

If you want to add more intrapreneurs to your workforce, "hire for attitude and train for skills".

How to spot and assess prospective intrapreneurs quickly?

Be creative.

For instance, while rendering the KoRe Growth 10+ service, we design a simple “Intrapreneurial Mentality & Serendipity” test jointly with our client companies.

In a sample test, the testees were given a 10-page text containing 20 images. They were asked to discover the best Growth 10+ business opportunity hidden in one of these images.

On page 2, the text contained a huge quarter-page-size message saying, “Go straight to the image 17 on page 9 – the best Growth 10+ opportunity is hidden there”.

KPI-focused testees didn’t notice this message because they looked at images only.

Open-minded testees noticed the hint and completed the task faster and better.
