The
Essence of
Positioning
Use positioning to stand out in
the game of life or business

"Positioning
is the art and craft of creating a positive,
differentiated, and distinctive impression of
your brand or product in the mind of your
customer. From the customer's perspective,
positioning is not an outside-in promotion, it's
an inside-out perception."

It's not enough to be valuable. You
also need to be highly
remarkable and memorable to
position your brand in the minds
of your customers.

In marketing, the only reality
that counts is what's already in
the prospect's mind, and what
new reality you want to create
there.
Positioning is what you do to
the mind of the prospect – you
look for the solution of your
problem inside the prospect's
mind.

Positioning refers to how a product, brand, or idea is perceived in the
customer's mind
relative to competitors.
In marketing that is "a
battle of perception", positioning involves shaping
perceptions through differentiation, messaging, unique
value
propositions, and
experience.
Positioning is the strategic process of creating a unique perception of a
product, brand, or company in the mind of the target customer,
differentiating it from competitors by highlighting specific benefits,
features, or values, and influencing buying decisions. It's about defining
the distinct space you want to occupy in the market and in the customer's
consciousness to build a strong, memorable identity and connection.
The positioning system is based on the concept that communication can only
take place at the right time and under the right circumstances. The mind
accepts only that new information which matches its current state. It
filters out everything else. In other words, positioning is a process by
which a psychological "anchor" has been placed into the minds of prospects
so that they come to choose one specific person or company over another.
